The Carnivorous Plant FAQ v. 12

Q: The big Utricularia checklist!

A: On this page I list all the species of Utricularia. I organize this list using subgenus and section categorizations following the system proposed by Taylor (1989). The system below is slightly modified because work by Müller and Borsch (2005) showed Taylor's system of two subgenera to be paraphyletic.

In his monograph, Taylor presents the sections and species in an order that is intended to imply an evolutionary order. I do not do that---for simplicity the sections and species are listed merely in alphabetical order within their respective categories.

In the appendix to Ellison & Adamec (2018), the authors include a species list for this genus. I must admit there are a number of peculiarities in the list, so I do not adopt most of the suggestions in the list. However, for a section by section comparison of my treatment vs. theirs, refer to the comments made in the specific sections.

I will continue to try to keep this list fresh.
