The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Southern Spain in 2011

Return to the Trip Overview

Baby clump:
Whenever I see a population of carnivorous plants, I immediately start thinking about reproduction.

Uh, wait, that sounds kind of weird.

What I mean is that I look at how the plants are reproducing from one generation to the next. Are there plants at different age ranks?

The clump of seedlings in this photograph obviously resulted from a fruit getting stuck on the wet wall, and the seeds germinated while still in the capsule. You can see the dead, twiglike remains of the flower scape diagonalizing to the lower right.

This image shows more conventional seedlings, scattered on the wall.
