Autumnal growth:
After a full year's growth, the density of Darlingtonia californica pitchers is high and the
cover from this species easily exceeds any other plant in the seepage.
Darlingtonia is usually associated with a mineral called serpentine.
One interesting surprise about this site is that there is no serpentine present. Even gouges in the
ground nearby--resulting from logging operations--have exhumed many rocks and boulders: none are
serpentinic.
