Late spring:
This site is in the Sierra Nevada at high elevation, around 1800m (5800 feet).
Winter is bitterly cold and long. For several months the site is buried under meters of snow--this is a
much harsher environment than those coddled Darlingtonia in coastal habitats enjoy!
Every spring carries surprises as the snow melts. This year the receding snow revealed several snags that had collapsed into
the periphery of the seep.
