Q: What is the CP database?
A: The CP database
is a remarkable site maintained by Rick Walker, and for a few decades (starting in the 1990s) was one
of the central sites for carnivorous plants on the web. Back when the web was young, the CP database, the
carnivorous plant discussion group, my web
site, and to a lesser degree the ICPS web site, were the primary carnivorous plant resources on the web.
Of course, now there are many additional sites on the web that are rich with carnivorous plant content. However, the
CP database is still the most authoritative site for carnivorous plant nomenclature in print or electronica, anywhere.
The content of the nomenclatural database is maintained by the well-known authority and perfectionist, Jan Schlauer.
Incidentally,
a newer interface to the CP database,
created by web-wiz John Brittnacher, is in some ways easier to use.
In addition to Jan's data, the CP database also includes
a
detailed description of tissue culture, and
Danser's Nepenthes work in its entirety.
