The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Apalachicola National Forest in 2010

Return to the Trip Overview

Helianthus radula
These young plants, closely related to the sunflower of commerce, are about as large as your hand with fingers spread. They were quite common along the highways berms. We were struck by how much they evoked certain Australian plants with which we are familiar!

Squeezing the rain out of our clothes, Beth and I sought an early supper.

Listen to me now, and listen well. If you visit Apalachicola National Forest, you MUST set aside time for your meal, and you MUST dine at the Family Coastal Restaurant. This is just south of the intersection of Hwy 65 and 379, on the east side of the road. Starve yourself before you arrive, and then feast on the all-you-can-eat seafood. Yum yum!

I have a copy of their menu with me somewhere, so if I find it, I'll post their hours. I think they're closed Monday and Tuesday.
