The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Southern Portugal in 2011

Return to the Trip Overview

If you do not have much experience with Drosophyllum, let me fill you in on some very interesting details. Shortly after being pollinated, Drosophyllum capsules elongate and become strangely translucent. Indeed, peering into the capsule, you can nearly pick out the maturing seeds contained within.

Then, as the capsule ages, it become light brown and then the tip valves split and bend back, allowing the seeds to be scattered by the wind.
