The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Florida Panhandle in 2008

Different?
Bob, Brian, and Jim thought these plants looked different than the plants at the first site. I'm not sure I saw what they were talking about, but admittedly I spent much of my time looking at a smaller set of plants through my camera lenses.

Wow, are these plants red! I don't think I have ever seen Drosera filiformis look like this!

The population was distributed along the edge of the lakebed where the grasses ended and the pure sand started. Being a drought, the lake was dry and it was difficult to infer the typical water level. The plants were in very moist conditions, with plenty of water oozing through the sand. I walked the population, and marked its extent with my GPS--all told it was about 275 meters long.
