The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Florida Panhandle in 2008

Return to the Trip Overview

Flare up!
The fire would occasionally flare up and the flame lengths would grow up to about 6 meters (20 feet)! Its crackling sound turned into a roar. I can only imagine what a crown fire must sound like!

Unlike biblical counterparts, the bushes in Osceola are consumed when burned.

I was also expecting to meet Brian Barnes, another carnivorous plant grower who has been around for many years, but who keeps a relatively low profile. Brian was driving up from southern Florida and also had a great deal of expertise visiting the areas on my itinerary.
