House Room for Rent!
We are in the process of buying a newly constructed house.
We are looking for a responsible housemate for a move-in date of 1 June 2008.
$500/month, (gas and electricity included). $500 security deposit. No lease.
About the House
It is a three-bedroom, two-bath, single-story house with a footprint of 1973 square feet (183 m2).
Here is the floor plan. Two-car garage. It may be a few weeks before
we install the washer/dryer.
The house is near the intersection of
Ortiz Avenue and Campos Avenue ,
southwest of the intersection of Pole Line and Gibson Road.
The house has 9 foot ceilings; a mix of carpeting, tile, and linoleum; granite slab kitchen; and a
back yard large
enough for excellent gardening opportunities.
We do not want to have a television in the common area of the house.
About the Room
The bedroom is about 12×10.5 feet, and is indicated on the
floor plan with the words "Bedroom 2." We can provide
furnishing for the bedroom, or you can bring your own bed or futon. No waterbeds please.
The room has a full closet, 8.5 feet long. It is adjoined by a
full bathroom and shower.
Rental Terms
Rent includes full house and garden privileges.
Drug or tobacco use is not acceptable. Reasonable drinking is fine. We do not wish to have dance or drinking
parties at the house, but moderate social
gatherings can (and should!) happen now and then. We have friends, we expect you do too.
No cats or dogs. Also, no large predators such as a ferret or
constricting snake that could harm our cat.
When you decide to leave,
we will work together to clean the room in order to prepare for a subsequent
tenant.
We are not control freaks. We are confident that problems can be resolved before they become a issue;
we will talk and address things as they come up. For example, we would want to meet overnight guests before hand, and not
over breakfast the next morning. We can set guidelines regarding refrigerator use, etc., as we go along, in a way that feels
comfortable to us all.
About Us
Barry works on the UC Davis campus, and is employed by The Nature Conservancy
as an invasive species specialist. He has a strong interest in botanical photography. Beth works for a vision insurance
company (VSP) and is an artist. She is an avid birdwatcher. We are semi-vegetarian--Beth eats seafood only, Barry eats meat
occasionally. We do not buy any meat except seafood.
We have a timid but friendly cat that is extremely well behaved. She stays inside the house.
We are environmentally conscious, and recycle avidly. We will also have a compost pile for vegetable kitchen scraps and
yard waste.
We are very active and are often out exercising.
In the evenings we occasionally rent movies
and the like, which we watch on a computer monitor.
About You
We are looking for a mature, reliable, responsible person who is seeking a quiet place to live. The ideal house mate
will not be a
"ghost," but is rather a person who enjoys our company as we enjoy theirs. It is okay if you are a carnivore--you
will be buying your own groceries.
You should have a cell phone, as we do not have a land line in the house. We cannot say if there will be wireless in the
house--to make the house energy efficient we have opted to install a "radiant barrier" which may interfere with
wireless receptivity. (It certainly degrades cell phone reception by a few bars.)
The house is not located really close to any
bus stops, so you should have some kind of vehicle.
